A Visit with Kathy

We are back from Alaska. Mom & I had a wonderful visit with Kathy. We talked, laughed, played cards and caught up on our lives. I was interested to hear she is involved in a string ensemble. A cellist, she has also learned the violin, string bass and viola. They have people from the outside come in and work with the orchestra and twice a year the inmates perform concerts that are open to the community. As you can see, she was able to play her violin for us.



Another musical interest is the choir. She sings alto in a small group. Kathy also works Monday –Friday sewing. Sometimes she sews government uniforms or other government projects. Lately she is sewing parkas for a private vendor in the area. I guess the prison negotiates the contracts. Most evenings she has either an orchestra or choir practice and once a week she has a scripture study group. All these activities have enriched her life. Self admitting, she is moving forward and has seen some edifying changes of heart and mind.
